First Phase of Westerra Gets Green Light from City Council

Members of Regina city council have given their stamp of approval for the first phase of development for Harvard Communities newest residential project Westerra. Located between Courtney Street and Pinkie Road in Regina's west end, Westerra will feature a completely mixed-use format of residential, retail, and commercial options and will ultimately house approximately 7,400 people. 

Following positive discussion between our team of developers, the city council members, and associated parties, city council ultimately approved the project citing its importance to the growth of the city, most notably to the west end of the city. "It's an exciting new development for the city. It shows that we're on the path for continued growth," said Mayor Michael Fougere when asked about the approval of Westerra.

The Dieppe Community Association, representing the community just north of the planned Westerra site, penned a letter to Council saying "It is our hope that this development breeds new life into our community ...". Many residents have expressed frustration regarding the lack of local amenities and shopping that serve the west end of the city, a problem they see will be solved by Westerra and its mixed-use plan of residential, commercial, and retail offerings.

With this approval, it is all systems go for Westerra. Construction will begin in the near future and show homes are expected to open in 2016. The first phase of Westerra is expected to be fully developed in about four to five years.
