529 Uptown Debuts Fine Dining at 201 Portage

529 Uptown has officially opened its doors in the lobby at 201 Portage, following a Grand Opening event held on March 5th.

The new restaurant is a creation of Doug Stephen’s WOW Hospitality Concepts, the culinary experts behind Winnipeg staples 529 Wellington, Peasant Cookery, Prairie’s Edge and Alena. Behind the flavours of 529 Uptown is Chef Östen Rice, a Gold Medal Plate winner and one of the most decorated chefs in the Winnipeg culinary scene.

Open for breakfast, lunch, and early dinner, 529 Uptown offers an exquisite menu with a distinct Japanese influence. Notably, 529 Uptown proudly distinguishes itself as one of Winnipeg's only restaurants consistently serving A5 Wagyu beef.

Within the restaurant, guests are treated to a world-class experience highlighted by an animated, illuminated bar and a natural outdoor patio that blends onto the newly transformed Plaza at 201 Portage.

The Grand Opening also celebrated the arrival of two other food offerings from WOW Hospitality. 529 Coffee, a premium coffee bar, is now open in the tower’s lobby and will serve a carefully curated menu of morning drinks. Meanwhile, 529 Burger will join OAKBERRY, Mercatino and Bon Sushi in the tower’s food court and serve a collection of artisanal burgers.

The arrival of 529 Uptown, 529 Burger and 529 Coffee is the delicious finale to 201 Portage’s recent $25+ million renovation project that included dramatic upgrades to the tower’s main floor, outdoor plaza, and exterior.

“After five great years of collaboration with Doug and his amazing team, seeing 529 Uptown finally open its doors at 201 Portage feels like uncorking a fine wine we've all been anticipating,” says Rosanne Hill Blaisdell, President and CEO of Harvard Developments. “It's more than just a restaurant; this is a whole new vibe and flavour for 201 Portage and downtown Winnipeg, and we’re confident it will deliver an experience that's been worth the

The trio of eateries are open Monday to Friday, with 529 Uptown operating from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., 529 Coffee from 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and 529 Burger serving breakfast at 8:00 a.m. before transitioning to lunch between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
