Thanks to the generosity of members of the Regina Chamber of Commerce and community partners, the ride to and from school will be shorter for children attending grades 6, 7 and 8 at Mother Teresa Middle School (MTMS).

The school had one traditional school bus that transported students in grades six and seven last year, but with the addition of the grade eight class this fall, travel time for children was beyond acceptable. Through the leadership of the Regina Chamber of Commerce and Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board, a new 21 passenger shuttle became a reality in late summer to address this transportation challenge. The students will have access to safe transportation to and from school, band, extracurricular activities, class field trips and summer camps.

The original goal of raising $80,000 to purchase the bus was surpassed thanks to help from local businesses. Eight companies stepped forward to sponsor much needed transportation: Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board, Yara, Haztech, Shooting Stars, Solvera, Thyssen Mining Construction, Bayer CropScience, and Alliance Energy along with their Regina Employees’ Association, provided full funding for the bus.

MTMS was founded by Paul J. Hill with the support of partners Harvard Developments Inc., The Regina Catholic School Board, Campion College, and English Canadian Jesuits. The school provides an enhanced, holistic, education to Regina’s vulnerable inner city youth and is the first independent school of its kind in Canada.
